Siena's Palio July, 2nd and August, 16th The Palio tournament with its colors, from the yellow of the limestone plazas to the multi-colored flags and bandanas of the violent “contradaioli”. ...the Tournament starts off with a ring of the Mangia Bell Tower... the chorus of the crowd of each side, cheering and yelling... the sound of the carriage wheels that present the Palio Trophy, rumbling over the cobblestone... those of the horse hooves pounding on the plaza floors.... The colors, the sounds, the emotions.. ..the excitment of the dazed and delighted spectators and the emotion of the Senesi crowds.. |
